The verdict came in the second day of Davis’ retrial, and reversed his 2014 conviction on both charges. The state Court of Appeals threw out the original verdict in 2016, ruling Davis should have received a change of venue due to pre-trial publicity.

For traditional conservatives not many issues take on the level of importance as does religious freedom these days. While all three of the candidates in Southaven on Tuesday made the requisite references to the Constitution, it was Crampton who addressed directly the current political attempts to alter the First Amendment guarantee of freedom of religion.
