Governor Phil Bryant had previously opposed the lottery. But late last year, Bryant’s position on the lottery shifted. He cited the number of Mississippians purchasing lottery tickets in neighboring states, taking money out of the state, as the reason for his support for the lottery.

Parks said although she’s open to creating new ways to generate income in the state, the Kossuth native is against a state lottery. Rep. Nick Bain (D-Corinth) said he will also vote no on any lottery legislation.
